Caring For Screen Printing Mesh

The selection of a particular screen printing mesh primarily depends upon the application of its use. There are different types of mesh available. In regards to fabric printing, one has to purchase a material which is coarse in nature thereby allowing larger amounts of ink to pass through than under normal circumstances. On the other hand, heavily detailed printing needs a slightly tighter material whereas electronic and technological based printing necessitates a metallic or polyester surface which can be electrically heated. However, in general terms it is necessary that every type of mesh employed should be able to endure tension as well as being impermeable to aqua based and other lethal chemicals.

The basic problem faced by every printer is the amount of tension that a particular screen print mesh can endure. If the material is not particularly resistant to strain then the results produced will stipulate blotchiness and irregular patterns. Hence, one has to care for a screen print mesh in such a way so as to make it more durable in both tension and strain. Proper maintenance also leads to enhanced quality as well as a long lasting mesh which indirectly means it is more cost effective. Tension problems within a particular mesh can also lead to damage to the frame.

The first and foremost step in properly maintaining one’s screen print mesh is to scrub it with chemicals and to degrease it before use. This inherently allows the stencil to function properly. On the other hand, one also has to maintain standard practices such as storing the screen in such a place where it cannot be damaged. Also, one has to protect it from sharp objects during the actual printing process. The replacement of screens can be significantly expensive so it is better to care for them properly from the beginning. Hence, if proper maintenance techniques are practiced then the mesh can be used for a very long time and can successfully participate in thousands of printing operations.

Primarily, a screen printing mesh has to be replaced under two conditions. The first one relates to blockages and the second one is signified by rips and tears within the screen itself. Hence, in order to avoid such problems one should keep tabs on the number of times the mesh is being used as well as the age of the object in years. Accordingly, one can establish proper maintenance and care policies in order to ensure that the screens remain in working condition all year round.
